Lucuma Designs Promotes Peruvian Folk Art
While Helping Indigenous Artists

Ardmore, PA - January 27, 2005 – Lucuma Designs prides itself on being a different
kind of company. While the intricate, native-Peruvian artistry Lucuma distributes would alone
make it different, it is their business practices that really set it apart.
Lucuma has been a proud member of the Fair Trade Organization since 1999, with co-founder and
designer Alessandra Bravo now serving on the board of directors.
“As a socially responsible and fair trade company, we value people first. Our business practices
are based on building relationships of mutual respect with our artist partners, our employees,
clients and the community,” explains Alessandra, adding “long term sustainability and respect
for the Earth is also our concern as we constantly evaluate what makes the most ecological sense.“
Since 1998, Lucuma has worked hard to develop and maintain good relationships with the artists,
compensating them fairly, and fostering a true team environment - the results of which can be
clearly seen in the quality of the final product.
Alessandra selects, trains and guides a network of over 20 family workshops and small producers
that reach over 200 artists throughout Peru. Each artist offers a unique story that can be shared
with customers to enhance the meaning behind the piece.
