mask artist Emilio

“Carving is my passion. It is a way of life for me. I have been carving Boruca masks since 2009, when I started studying under my uncle, German. Now, for traditional festivals, I help many young people in my community with their masks.”

Today, Emilio proudly creates his masks at Taller Brún̈crin̈ and has spent many years refining his art. He loves sharing his art when it’s complete and feels it’s immensely important to always remember and teach old traditions and rituals. He has hopes to one day travel to Peru and visit Machu Picchu to see other beautiful landscapes.
