Boruca mask artist

Mask by Rosa

“I started working on masks in 2014 but really discovered my love for painting two years ago. Nature inspires me the most --especially the butterflies and flowers I see around my home. To get inspired, I also enjoy going to my dad’s finca (ranch) where it is so quiet and peaceful.”

Rosa, one of the few women artists in Boruca, enjoys working with others, as she loves trading ideas and inspiration with other artists such as her brothers Luis Miguel, Francisco or Manuel. Aside from continuing to improve her painting skills, Rosa dreams of starting her own restaurant together with her partner. She is studying to become a school teacher and maybe one day will use her skills to teach mask making to kids!
